The Ministry of Defence (MoD), on September 7, 2026, published the draft Ahilyanagar Cantonment Building Bye-laws, 2026, proposed by the Cantonment Board, Ahilyanagar under Section 251 of the Cantonments Act, 2006. The draft proposes to supersede Notification No. 05 dated February 3, 1951, while preserving actions already taken under the earlier notification.
The proposed Bye-laws will apply within the limits of Ahilyanagar Cantonment and will come into force only upon their final publication in the Official Gazette by the Central Government. They contain provisions and definitions concerning building construction and alteration, applications and approvals, architects, apartments, advertising signs, amenity spaces, architectural projections and other building-related matters. The definition of amenity space covers facilities such as open spaces, parks, recreational grounds, schools, hospitals, parking, utilities, markets and other public amenities.
The notification is presently a draft and therefore does not itself bring the Bye-laws into force. Objections and suggestions may be submitted to the Cantonment Board, Ahilyanagar within 30 days from the date on which copies of the Gazette containing the draft are made available to the public, either in writing or through the specified email address. The final Bye-laws will become operative upon their final Gazette publication by the Central Government.
